Comparing Wii Fit and Vestibular Rehabilitation Training for Improving Balance in Adults with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

Researchers are evaluating the effects of Wii Fit training compared to vestibular rehabilitation training on balance in patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo BPPV. This randomized control trial aims to understand how these two training methods influence balance and vertigo symptoms, particularly focusing on patients aged 30 to 60 years diagnosed with BPPV. The study uses several assessment tools including the Vestibular Rehabilitation questionnaire, Dizziness Handicap Inventory, Functional Reach Test, Clinical Test for Sensory Integration in Balance, and the Vertigo Symptom Scale. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group receives Wii Fit training involving games like tight rope tension, ski slalom, penguin slide, table tilt, and heading for six weeks, with sessions three days per week lasting 30 minutes each including warm-up and cool-down periods. The other group undergoes vestibular rehabilitation training involving exercises such as weight shifting, neck rotations, sit-to-stand exercises on a padded mat, and head movements with eyes closed, also three days per week for six weeks with each exercise session lasting three minutes. During the study, participants will be evaluated before and after treatment to measure static balance, dynamic balance, and vertigo symptoms over a six-week period. Researchers will monitor participants using standardized balance and vertigo assessment tools to analyze changes resulting from the interventions. The total participation time spans six weeks, with attention to safety and adherence throughout the trial.
