What this Trial Is About
Gestational diabetes mellitus GDM is a common metabolic condition during pregnancy characterized by glucose intolerance and increased insulin resistance. This trial evaluates and compares the effects of leg ergometer exercise versus arm ergometer exercise on blood glucose, exercise tolerance, body weight, and psychological stress in women with gestational diabetes during their second trimester. The study aims to determine which exercise modality may provide better management of these health factors in pregnant women with GDM. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups one performing leg ergometer exercise and the other performing arm ergometer exercise. Both groups will exercise three times per week for eight weeks, with each session lasting 20 to 30 minutes at a moderate intensity level. Exercises are supervised and involve a warm-up and cool-down period. In addition to exercise, all participants will receive standard care including dietary counseling, physical activity guidance, and routine antenatal monitoring. Throughout the study, participants will be assessed at the start and after eight weeks for blood glucose levels, exercise tolerance, body weight, and gestational diabetes-related stress. Blood glucose measurements may be taken before and after selected exercise sessions to monitor safety and response. The study is conducted in clinical settings using standardized protocols to ensure safety and consistency. Total participation lasts about eight weeks of intervention with assessments at baseline and completion.
