What this Trial Is About
Chronic ankle instability CAI is a common condition that can occur after a lateral ankle sprain, characterized by repeated episodes of the ankle giving way and ongoing instability lasting at least 12 months. This condition often affects amateur athletes and may lead to difficulties in activity due to impaired integration of sensory and cognitive information needed for sports. Researchers are studying whether adding vestibulo-ocular reflex VOR exercises to standard postural stabilization training can improve balance, ankle function, and cognitive performance in these athletes. The study compares two groups one receiving ankle joint mobilization and postural stabilization exercises, and the other receiving the same treatment plus VOR exercises that involve focusing on visual targets during head movements. Both groups will participate in 45-minute sessions, three times a week, for six weeks. The VOR exercises progressively increase in difficulty and include positions such as sitting, standing, walking, and single-leg stance. Participants will be evaluated before the program, immediately after six weeks of training, and again four weeks later. Assessments include dynamic balance tests, ankle instability questionnaires, cognitive tasks combined with physical exercises, and visual acuity tests. These measures will help researchers understand the effects of adding VOR exercises on ankle stability and neurocognitive function in amateur athletes with CAI.
