What this Trial Is About

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in older adults can cause declines in cognitive and motor skills, especially eye-hand coordination (EHC), which is essential for daily activities and independence. This decline may result in difficulties like buttoning clothes, spilling drinks, and messy handwriting. The study evaluates and compares the effects of two interventions—video games and ball tossing exercises—on improving EHC in older adults with MCI. Participants are randomly assigned to two groups: an experimental group that plays video games designed to enhance EHC alongside ball tossing exercises, and a control group that only performs the ball tossing exercises. The interventions involve progressively challenging activities over six weeks, including tapping illuminated squares, dribbling and throwing soft balls, and using a table tennis bat to tap a ball. The intensity and repetitions increase weekly based on participant ability. Participants will be assessed before and after the six-week intervention using the MoCA scale for cognitive screening and the Beery-Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration to measure EHC. Researchers will monitor progress through these standardized tests to evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions. The study aims to offer accessible activities that may support cognitive health and independence in older adults with MCI.
