What this Trial Is About
Atrial fibrillation often occurs together with tricuspid regurgitation, which may cause changes in the heart's right atrium and tricuspid valve that worsen over time. This relationship can lead to heart failure, stroke, and the need for valve surgery. Researchers are evaluating whether early rhythm control treatment improves outcomes compared to usual care in patients with both atrial fibrillation and tricuspid regurgitation. The study compares two groups: one receiving early rhythm control therapy, including treatments like catheter ablation, cardioversion, and anti-arrhythmic drugs, started within two years of new atrial fibrillation diagnosis; and another receiving usual care focused on rate control without early rhythm intervention. Data collected retrospectively from January 2013 to December 2023 will be analyzed to assess these approaches. Participants’ clinical outcomes, including cardiac death, heart failure hospitalizations, stroke, and tricuspid valve surgery, will be monitored during the observation period. Researchers will also review additional outcomes such as all-cause death and pacemaker implantation. This observational study aims to clarify if early rhythm control can slow disease progression and improve long-term prognosis in this patient group.
