Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep disorder that affects many people and is linked to problems such as memory and mood issues, high blood pressure, diabetes, daytime sleepiness, nighttime urination, and increased heart and metabolic risks. The usual treatment is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), but many patients struggle to use it regularly. This study explores how decision-making related to effort might affect CPAP use in people with OSA, both before and after treatment. Participants with OSA will have their cognitive functions assessed, focusing on effort-based decision-making, memory, executive function, planning, and response inhibition before starting CPAP treatment and again after six months of use. A control group of similar age and education without sleep disorders will also undergo cognitive assessments for comparison. During the study, researchers will evaluate changes in cognitive functions related to CPAP treatment and how these relate to daytime sleepiness and adherence. Participants will be monitored over six months, with cognitive assessments conducted at the start and after treatment. The study aims to better understand factors influencing CPAP adherence and cognitive changes in OSA patients.
