What this Trial Is About
Researchers are investigating the effects of AI-based fitness wearables and app programs on physical activity and health outcomes in older adults living alone with cognitive decline. This study aims to identify and evaluate mobile health mHealth intervention components that can increase physical activity and improve mechanistic outcomes like self-efficacy and outcome expectations over a 6-month period. The study also seeks to determine the best combinations of these components and explore the behavioral change mechanisms involved. Participants will be assigned to one of eight groups receiving different combinations of three interventions a fitness app providing personalized AI-driven exercise prescriptions targeting self-efficacy a social network app targeting social support and a health education app focusing on outcome expectations. Some groups will receive all three apps, while others will receive none or various combinations. This randomized, factorial study will last 6 months, with assessments at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months. During the study, participants will use wearable devices and apps to track physical activity, with researchers measuring moderate-to-vigorous physical activity MVPA, physical activity levels, and behavioral change variables. Secondary outcomes include quality of life, psychosocial wellbeing, and cognition. These measures will be collected at baseline, mid-point, and end-point. The study aims to develop a refined, personalized intervention to support healthy aging in this population.
