Evaluation of HPB or Advanced GI Surgery Fellowship Training

This research aims to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of training provided through the Fellowship Council curriculums, specifically in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) and Advanced Gastrointestinal (GI) surgery fellowships. The study also explores the job market and perceptions related to fellowship training for graduates. The goal is to understand how well these fellowships prepare surgeons for independent practice in complex HPB or GI surgery cases. Participants include current and past fellows of the Fellowship Council-sponsored fellowships, including those accredited by the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (AHPBA), as well as senior surgeons involved in fellowship training. The study collects information primarily through surveys and observational data to compare current fellowship structures and improve future surgical training. Participants will provide information via surveys and other data collection methods to assess training efficacy and career outcomes. Researchers will evaluate the primary outcome of fellowship efficacy over one year. The study is observational and involves no drug or surgical interventions, focusing on the experiences and perceptions of fellows and trainers. Participation may last according to the survey and follow-up schedules until the study ends in January 2028.
