What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying social cognition in adults with early Huntington disease (HD), a genetic disorder affecting movement, thinking, and psychological well-being. The study aims to evaluate the usefulness of a test called the Double Movie for the Assessment of Social Cognition-Multiple Choice (DMASC-MC) in detecting social functioning problems compared to two other established tests. Better understanding social cognitive issues could help affected individuals and their families by improving awareness and guiding medical care. The study includes 20 adults with early HD and 20 healthy controls matched by age and sex. Participants undergo assessments with the DMASC-MC and two other social cognition tests: Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test and The Emotion Hexagon Test. They will also be evaluated for cognitive, psychiatric, and motor symptoms related to HD. This observational, cross-sectional study does not involve treatment but compares test results between groups. Participants meet with a medical doctor and psychologist for evaluations including cognitive tests, psychiatric assessments, and motor function exams. Researchers will measure differences in social cognition test scores between HD patients and controls and examine correlations with other clinical measures. The study seeks to improve clinical care by identifying social cognitive deficits important for planning support and communication. The total participation involves a single assessment session, with results compared at baseline.
