What this Trial Is About

Latino pregnant individuals face higher risks of poor health outcomes during pregnancy that can affect both the birthing parent and baby, potentially leading to long-term chronic health issues. Researchers are evaluating the Food Education Access Support Together (FEAST) Perinatal Support Program (PSP), a community-based intervention aiming to promote healthy eating, well-being, and health equity for under-resourced urban populations. This pilot trial focuses on improving dietary habits, overall health, and related behavioral and cognitive factors during pregnancy and postpartum. The FEAST PSP includes weekly group sessions over 16 weeks that provide nutrition education based on USDA guidelines for pregnant individuals, along with guided group sharing and engagement. Participants also receive a $15 weekly grocery gift card to help access fresh, healthful foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. This single-arm study involves 40 pregnant adults receiving the core PSP plus the gift card, aiming to support dietary behavior change through education, skill-building, and social support. Participants will complete assessments before and after the intervention, including surveys measuring dietary behaviors, self-efficacy, motivation, and health symptoms. Physical measures such as body mass index and Hemoglobin A1C will be collected, alongside interviews to gather perceptions of the program. Researchers will evaluate the program's feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effects on dietary and health outcomes. The study is sponsored by the University of Southern California and will start in February 2026, with results informing further program development and research.
