Focus Groups to Optimize Research Methodology in a Multinutrient Study of Racially and Ethnically Diverse Children With ADHD and Emotional Dysregulation

Researchers are conducting focus groups to understand the treatment needs and barriers to participation in a planned multinutrient study among racially and ethnically diverse families, specifically Black and Hispanic communities. The study aims to gather parents' priorities about their child's mental health and explore factors that may affect research participation, including the use of complementary and integrative health interventions. The study involves separate focus groups for adult parents or caregivers who self-identify as Hispanic or Black/African American. Participants will discuss their child's mental health impact, treatments received, and perceived barriers to joining research, including views on bio-specimen collection methods like urine and blood samples. These discussions will help shape the final design and recruitment strategies for the upcoming multinutrient feasibility study. Participants will attend in-person focus group sessions conducted in English or Spanish, where conversations will be audio recorded. Researchers will collect feedback on mental health care needs and study participation challenges. The main outcome is to gather input and feedback to inform the feasibility study. The total participation involves a single session focused on understanding community perspectives and study design considerations.
