Hip fractures are serious injuries mainly affecting older adults, often leading to health problems or death in the months after surgery. Doctors use the Nottingham Hip Fracture Score (NHFS) to estimate death risk after surgery, but this score does not fully capture a person's physical vulnerability. This study aims to find out if measuring frailty with the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS), which looks at independence and physical function before the fracture, can better predict death after hip fracture surgery. The study will observe older adults aged 60 and above who have surgery for proximal femoral fractures. Frailty will be assessed using the CFS when participants are admitted to the hospital. Researchers will collect clinical data already recorded during routine care, including NHFS variables. No interventions will be given since this is an observational study, and participants will be followed to assess outcomes. Participants will be monitored for survival at 30 and 90 days after surgery by reviewing hospital records and possibly contacting them or their relatives. The study will also examine postoperative complications and length of hospital stay. The goal is to see if adding frailty assessment improves mortality prediction and helps doctors identify higher-risk patients to plan better care after surgery.

Complete this quick 3-step screening to check your eligibility
Duration - 2 to 4 weeks
Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial.
1 visit (in-person)
Duration - Up to 90 days after surgery
Participants who undergo surgical treatment for proximal femoral fractures are observed. Frailty is assessed at hospital admission using the Clinical Frailty Scale, and clinical data are collected to calculate the Nottingham Hip Fracture Score. Mortality and postoperative complications are tracked.
Assessments at hospital admission and follow-up visits up to 90 days post-surgery
