What this Trial Is About

This research aims to study changes in physical performance, lung function, and muscle strength in patients undergoing pulmonary endarterectomy (PET). It focuses on observing these changes during the postoperative period to better understand the effects of the surgery on physical capacity, lung health, and frailty. The study is observational and prospective, including adults aged 18 and older. Participants will be evaluated at multiple time points: one day before surgery, immediately after discharge from the intensive care unit, before hospital discharge (about 20 days after surgery), and six months post-surgery. Assessments include tests such as the Six-Minute Walk Test, Short Physical Performance Battery, One-Minute Sit-to-Stand Test, manovacuometry, dynamometry, spirometry, and the Clinical Frailty Scale. These tests measure physical performance, muscle strength, lung function, and frailty. During the study, participants will undergo several evaluations at specified time points to track changes in their physical and respiratory health. Researchers will collect data on muscle strength, lung function, and frailty using functional tests and clinical scales. The study also explores risk factors that might predict functional loss during hospitalization. Participants will be monitored over approximately six months to assess recovery and long-term outcomes.
