What this Trial Is About

ElectroConvulsive Therapy ECT has been used since the 1930s as a treatment mainly for drug-resistant depressive illnesses and has shown effectiveness in other psychiatric conditions. This observational study aims to identify how ECT is practiced in France and to develop research that evaluates and improves the effectiveness of this treatment. There is currently no consensus on the best medical care for ECT in France, and the study seeks to update recommendations that have not been revised since 1997. The study observes patients who are referred for ECT and collects data over time without introducing new treatments or interventions. It focuses on understanding current medical procedures related to ECT and assessing its efficiency in patients from 2018 to 2022. No specific treatment groups or comparators are involved, as this is an observational study. Participants will be monitored through data collection about their treatment and health outcomes during and after ECT. The main outcome measured is the effectiveness of ECT on patients with mental disorders. The study is led by the Centre Hospitalier Henri Laborit and will continue until December 2027. Participants are expected to be patients referred for ECT, with no additional exclusion criteria specified.
