What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the effects of TECAR therapy, a type of radiant energy treatment that generates heat inside the body, on exercise preconditioning and recovery after exercise in healthy men. This study aims to understand how different TECAR therapy protocols influence muscle performance and recovery following exercise-induced muscle fatigue and damage. The trial involves fifty healthy male volunteers aged between 18 and 35 years. Participants are randomly assigned to one of five groups: a sham-control group receiving a fake TECAR treatment (massaging with the device turned off), or one of four TECAR therapy groups receiving either capacitive or resistive mode treatment applied to the quadriceps muscles before or after an eccentric knee extension exercise. Each treatment session lasts 10 minutes and is done immediately before or after the exercise protocol designed to induce muscle fatigue. During the study, participants will undergo a standardized knee extension exercise using a dynamometer to create muscle fatigue. Muscle strength and other outcomes such as muscle soreness, enzyme activity, temperature, oxygen saturation, blood flow, effort perception, and participant satisfaction will be measured at multiple time points from 5 minutes up to 96 hours after exercise. The main outcome is the change in muscle strength 48 hours post-exercise. The study is double-blind, with participants and assessors unaware of group assignments, and will monitor safety and treatment effects throughout.

Your Study Journey
Duration - 2 to 4 weeks
Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial.
1 visit (in-person)
Duration - Single treatment session on the day of exercise
Participants receive a single 10-minute Human TECAR device treatment session either immediately before or after a standardized knee extension eccentric exercise protocol to precondition or aid recovery of the quadriceps muscles.
1 treatment visit (in-person)
Duration - Up to 96 hours after exercise
Participants are observed and assessed for changes in muscle strength, muscle soreness, biochemical markers, muscle oxygenation, blood flow, effort perception, and satisfaction following the exercise and treatment.
Multiple follow-up visits at 5 minutes, 1 hour, 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours, and 96 hours post-exercise
