What this Trial Is About
Researchers are investigating two myocardial protection methods used during coronary artery bypass grafting CABG surgery for patients with multivessel coronary artery disease. The study compares Del Nido cardioplegia, originally designed for children but now used in adults, with the standard blood cardioplegia method. The goal is to evaluate which method better preserves heart muscle viability after surgery using advanced imaging techniques. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either Del Nido cardioplegia or blood cardioplegia during their CABG surgery. Del Nido cardioplegia and blood cardioplegia are solutions delivered to protect the heart muscle while the heart is stopped during surgery. This study uses magnetic resonance imaging MRI to assess heart function and muscle viability before surgery and about four weeks afterward. During the study, participants will have a cardiac MRI scan before their surgery and a follow-up MRI approximately four weeks after the procedure. Researchers will measure heart muscle viability and monitor major cardiac and cerebrovascular events at 30 days and six months after surgery. The trial aims to provide detailed insight into heart protection methods to improve postoperative outcomes for CABG patients.
