Early Respiratory Physiotherapy One Hour After Extubation to Improve Recovery in Elective Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Patients

Researchers are evaluating whether starting respiratory physiotherapy one hour after removing the breathing tube improves recovery outcomes for patients who have elective coronary artery bypass graft CABG surgery. The study aims to determine if this early intervention helps lung function, reduces lung complications after surgery, shortens intensive care and hospital stays, lowers pain and anxiety, and enhances overall recovery compared to the usual approach of starting physiotherapy the day after surgery. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups. One group receives a standardized early physiotherapy program within the first postoperative hours, including breathing exercises, airway clearance, early mobilization, progressive walking, and personalized exercises, alongside standard care. The other group receives the standard postoperative care, which includes routine physiotherapy according to hospital practice. The study follows strict perioperative management and physiotherapy protocols to ensure consistent treatment and evaluation. During the study, participants undergo assessments before surgery, on the first postoperative day, and before hospital discharge approximately up to 21 days after surgery. These include lung function tests like Forced Expiratory Volume and Peak Expiratory Flow, monitoring of lung complications, pain and anxiety levels, sedation and alertness status, arterial blood gas measurements, muscle strength, and a six-minute walk test. Researchers track outcomes from surgery until discharge, monitoring vital signs and recovery progress to compare the effects of early versus standard physiotherapy.
