What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the Integrated Cancer Care Access Network (ICCAN) program to see how well it supports cancer patients in completing their treatment and improving their quality of life. This study compares the ICCAN program to the usual hospital services provided in New York City, such as meeting with a Social Worker or a Patient Navigator. The focus is on Black, Hispanic, and/or low socioeconomic status patients receiving treatment for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and lung cancer in the New York metropolitan area. Participants in the ICCAN program receive written materials about social and economic resources, an initial needs assessment, and monthly follow-up with an ICCAN Access Facilitator to assist with ongoing needs. Both the ICCAN group and the usual care group receive the same written materials and treatment outcome surveys. The study includes a Phase I refinement and a Phase II randomized controlled trial comparing usual care to the ICCAN intervention. During the study, participants complete treatment outcomes surveys at intake, and at 3, 6, and 12 months. Researchers review medical charts at these time points and as needed. The main outcomes measured are treatment completion and adherence after one year, along with quality of life. The study also includes ongoing assessments of participant needs and assistance with social and economic challenges to support treatment adherence. The total participation duration is one year.
