What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating the impact of a physical exercise program called "Enguera Sé Saludable" on physical activity levels in adults aged 59 and older living in a rural area. The study compares three groups: one that has been participating in the exercise program for a year, another newly starting the same program, and a control group that does not follow the program but considers itself active. This research aims to understand differences in moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and overall health related to active aging. The exercise program includes multimodal and multicompetent sessions held twice weekly for 60 minutes, plus one 60-minute walking session per week. The study is designed as a quasi-experimental trial with three groups: long-term exercisers, new exercisers, and active controls without the program. Participants wear an Actigraph GT3X BT accelerometer for one week to measure physical activity and undergo various functional and health assessments. Participants are involved in wearing the accelerometer for seven days and completing several physical and health tests, including blood pressure, weight, balance and mobility tests, and questionnaires about physical activity and foot health. The study measures MVPA as the primary outcome over one year, along with secondary outcomes such as mobility tests, physical performance, and quality of life assessments. The total duration and follow-up extend for one year to monitor changes and safety.
