Study of Post COVID-19 Condition and Its Effects on Quality of Life in Adults in Brazil After the Omicron Wave

Researchers are evaluating adult patients in Brazil who were diagnosed with COVID-19 during the SARS-CoV-2 omicron wave to study the incidence, potential risk factors, and impact of post COVID-19 condition as defined by the World Health Organization. This retrospective cohort study aims to understand how this condition affects health-related quality of life and other important patient-centered outcomes. The study plans to enroll 1,694 adults with symptomatic COVID-19 confirmed after January 2022. Participants will be observed based on multiple exposures such as age, gender, education, existing health conditions, vaccination status, severity of their acute COVID-19 episode, and treatments used during the acute phase. This observational study collects data through internet-based recruitment and does not involve experimental treatments. The focus is on evaluating outcomes over a period from 3 to 24 months following diagnosis. During the study, participants will be assessed for post COVID-19 condition using the WHO definition and health quality measures like the EQ5D-3L. Other evaluations include daily living activities, functional status, cognition, mental health symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress, return to work or studies, healthcare use, and related costs. The study also monitors participants remotely and collects information on their health status over time to better understand the burden of post COVID-19 condition.
