What this Trial Is About

Researchers are creating a patient registry focused on gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorders to improve the accuracy of clinical diagnoses. These disorders include conditions such as eosinophilic esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, gastroparesis, irritable bowel syndrome, and others that cause symptoms like nausea, heartburn, constipation, and diarrhea. The goal is to support better patient identification and promote future research in the field of GI motility and Neurogastroenterology at Indiana University School of Medicine. This observational study does not involve any treatment or intervention. Instead, it collects detailed clinical information on patients diagnosed with GI motility disorders by specialized physicians using consensus diagnostic criteria rather than billing codes. The study also aims to develop patient-reported outcome measures for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and gastroparesis. Data collection will continue through the study completion, averaging 10 years. Participants seen in various GI clinics and endoscopy centers will have their motility diagnoses confirmed and recorded in the registry. The study will monitor accurate diagnosis identification as its primary outcome and gather patient-reported outcomes for certain conditions as secondary outcomes. There is no intervention administered, and the registry will provide valuable information for future clinical research. Participants' involvement mainly includes clinical evaluations and data collection during their routine care visits.
