What this Trial Is About

This research aims to improve care for people with severe asthma by collecting detailed health and treatment information over five years. The study focuses on participants with severe asthma classified at GINA Step 4 uncontrolled or at GINA Step 5, aiming to understand treatment responses and disease progression. The Canadian cohort gathers data from seven sites to help develop better asthma treatments and care strategies. Participants will have their medical information collected through interviews and medical chart reviews at baseline and yearly follow-ups for five years. Data collected include demographics, medical history, asthma medications, test results such as blood work, lung function, allergen tests, and imaging. All data are anonymized and securely stored to protect participant privacy. During the study, researchers will track various measures such as blood eosinophil and IgE levels, exhaled nitric oxide, asthma control over the past month, medication use, asthma exacerbations, emergency visits, hospital admissions, and lung function tests. Participant confidentiality is maintained, and research records may be reviewed for monitoring. The study spans five years with annual visits to monitor health and treatment outcomes.
