What this Trial Is About
This observational study examines the energy used by surgeons during anterior cruciate ligament ACL reconstruction surgeries. It aims to understand how different surgical approaches, including isolated ACL reconstruction, ACL combined with anterolateral ligament ALL reconstruction, and procedures with meniscal treatment, affect the surgeons physical workload. The study seeks to find out if adding ALL reconstruction or meniscal repair increases the surgeons energy expenditure during surgery. Surgeons will wear a special Hexoskin shirt that measures energy use and physiological workload throughout the surgery, from skin incision to wound closure. The study compares four types of surgeries isolated ACL reconstruction, ACL with ALL reconstruction, ACL with meniscal treatment, and ACL with both ALL reconstruction and meniscal treatment. Data on ventilation, heart rate, and surgical time will also be collected. Participants are patients undergoing primary ACL reconstruction confirmed by clinical exam and MRI. The surgeons energy use is monitored continuously during surgery using the wearable device. Researchers will measure total energy expenditure and other physiological markers during the procedure. The study runs from February 2025 to September 2026, and participants will be involved only during their surgery. No additional follow-up visits are mentioned.
