What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying the individual fatigue response during blood flow restriction BFR training on a cycle ergometer in patients undergoing rehabilitation after total knee arthroplasty TKA. The study aims to explore how exercise pressure response can be used to assess physiological strain during BFR training in a medically supervised setting. This pilot study intends to improve the evaluation of load management during such exercise. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups in a crossover design. The first group will perform cycling with BFR at a low intensity 40% of heart rate reserve, followed one week later by a session at a higher intensity 60% HRR. The second group will start with the higher intensity session and then switch to the lower intensity after one week. These sessions allow comparison of fatigue response at different exercise intensities. During the study, continuous monitoring of exercise pressure response will be conducted throughout each training session until immediately after completion. Muscle strength will be assessed before and after exercise to evaluate changes. The trial includes triple masking and aims to gather diagnostic information about fatigue and strain during BFR training. Total participation lasts from initial screening through completion by March 2027.
