Multimorbidity and Cardiovascular Risk Factors After Kidney Transplant at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Trust

Researchers are studying adults who have received a kidney transplant at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Trust to understand how their health changes over the first year after transplant. The study focuses on the development and progression of multiple health conditions, especially cardiovascular disease and its risk factors like hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. They aim to explore how these conditions affect patients' quality of life and physical function after transplant. This observational study involves no active treatments or interventions. Instead, participants will have health data collected at several visits: baseline, 3 months, 6 months, and one year after their initial study visit. Some participants will also undergo body composition assessments using bioelectrical impedance at baseline, 6 months, and one year. Additionally, a small group will participate in structured interviews to explore challenges in managing cardiovascular health and multimorbidity. Participants will attend study visits aligned with their usual renal outpatient appointments at the hospital. Researchers will collect information including blood pressure, blood tests (such as HbA1c and lipid levels), body measurements, functional status assessments (KDQOL SF 36 and sit-to-stand test), and details about comorbidities and medications. The study will measure changes in multimorbidity and cardiovascular risk factors over one year, with no extra blood tests or procedures beyond routine care. The total participation time is about one year following transplant.
