What this Trial Is About
This research aims to compare two treatment approaches for adults with sub-acute hemiplegic stroke to improve lower limb motor function, coordination, and ambulation. It evaluates the Neurodevelopmental Technique NDT and Mirror Therapy MT, both known to aid stroke patients in regaining functional independence. The study is a randomized, single-blinded clinical trial conducted at the University of Lahore with 40 participants randomly assigned to two groups. Participants in Group A will receive Neurodevelopmental Technique exercises in various positions such as supine, prone, sitting, and standing, combined with routine physiotherapy. Group B will undergo Mirror Therapy using a mirror to create visual illusions of the unaffected leg performing movements, also alongside routine physiotherapy. Both groups will attend sessions three times a week for 12 weeks, totaling 36 sessions, with each session lasting about 60 to 65 minutes. Throughout the study, participants will be assessed at the start and after 12 weeks for ambulation, lower extremity motor function, and lower limb coordination. Routine physical therapy includes stretching and range of motion exercises for the lower limbs. The study involves careful monitoring to ensure correct exercise techniques and measures improvements in motor skills and functional mobility. Participation spans 12 weeks of treatment with outcome evaluation at baseline and study end.
