What this Trial Is About

Researchers are evaluating a chatbot designed to help Black or African American adults quit smoking. This randomized study aims to see if the chatbot is acceptable to people trying to quit smoking and to gather initial information about its effectiveness. Participants will either receive access to the chatbot or no chatbot support to compare outcomes. Participants in the experimental group will use a chatbot that alerts them during predicted high-risk times for smoking and suggests ways to manage these triggers. The control group will not receive the chatbot. The study collects data on how participants interact with the app and their smoking behavior over a period of weeks. Participants will be involved for up to 8 weeks with assessments including usability of the technology, number of daily interactions with the app, number of cigarettes smoked per day, use of nicotine lozenges, and smoking abstinence at 2 and 8 weeks. Motivation to quit and withdrawal symptoms will also be evaluated. Safety and feasibility of study procedures are monitored throughout.
