A Prospective Study on the Use of an App (PancreasPlus) for Home Monitoring and Proactive Management of Patients With Pancreatic Cancer

Caring for people with pancreatic cancer requires good coordination between hospital and home care, involving various healthcare professionals and active patient participation. This research evaluates the PancreasPlus app, designed to support patients and caregivers with information, self-monitoring tools, and communication with healthcare teams. The study aims to assess the app’s feasibility, patient engagement, perceived quality of care, and its impact on anxiety and unplanned hospital visits over a 3-month period. Participants will use the PancreasPlus app for about 3 months. The app helps track symptoms, weight, appointments, and provides educational content on nutrition, emotional support, and patient rights. Patients complete questionnaires about their physical and psychological wellbeing, including anxiety and quality of life. The app may suggest contacting healthcare providers if warning signs appear but does not replace medical decisions. Participants receive training and support to use the app, with possible reminder calls. During the study, participants complete initial assessments at the start and follow-up questionnaires at 12 weeks using the app. Data collected includes unplanned hospital visits, chemotherapy adherence, anxiety levels, nutritional status, quality of life, and app usability. Most activities are conducted remotely, supporting easy engagement. The study monitors patient involvement through questionnaire completion and satisfaction with the app, aiming to improve care coordination and patient experience.
