What this Trial Is About

The Peking University Birth Cohort in Weifang (PKUBC-WF) is a prospective observational study focused on understanding how exposures before and during pregnancy affect the health of mothers and their children. The study investigates the short-term and long-term effects of environmental, nutritional, and lifestyle factors on maternal health, pregnancy complications, and child development up to 18 years old. It also examines health issues such as gestational diabetes, hypertension, preterm birth, obesity, and developmental disorders. Participants include pregnant women living in Weifang city and their families. They are grouped based on whether they have environmental, nutritional, or lifestyle exposures or not. Data collection involves no interventions and includes gathering biological samples like blood, urine, placenta, umbilical cord, cord blood, and feces. The study follows participants from early pregnancy through delivery and into the child's development years, with continuous monitoring. Throughout the study, researchers collect extensive data on pregnancy outcomes and child growth, development, and health. Evaluations occur at various time points from birth up to 17 years old and include measurements of weight, height, early child development, and incidence of conditions like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, anxiety, and depression. Safety and communication abilities are also monitored, with long-term follow-up planned until the child reaches adulthood.
