Understanding Perception, Risk Behaviour, and Attitudes Related to Non-communicable Diseases Among Adolescents and Young Adults: An Exploratory Study

This research aims to explore the understanding, risk behaviours, and attitudes related to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among adolescents and young adults. It focuses on how young people perceive NCDs and their health-risk behaviours, such as tobacco use, harmful alcohol consumption, unhealthy diets, and physical inactivity. The study addresses the growing burden of chronic diseases globally and in Hong Kong, emphasizing early intervention during youth to help prevent these conditions later in life. Participants aged 18 to 45 who speak Cantonese are invited to take part in this observational study. The study collects information through a modified behavioural health-risk factor survey that examines four major health-risk behaviours and lifestyle practices linked to NCD prevention and control. The survey data will be analyzed to identify the prevalence of risk behaviours and attitudes toward health among young people. During the study, participants will provide demographic and behavioural information through the survey. Researchers will use statistical methods to summarize and compare data across different subgroups. The main outcome measured is information on the four key health-risk behaviours at baseline. The findings aim to support the development of targeted interventions to help young people quit risky behaviours and adopt healthier lifestyles. Participation is voluntary, and data collection is focused on understanding behaviours and attitudes related to NCDs.
