What this Trial Is About
This research aims to adapt, implement, and evaluate a trauma and violence informed care (TVIC) intervention specifically designed for Black women in middle Tennessee. The study focuses on intimate partner violence and seeks to improve healthcare providers' ability to deliver trauma-informed care and enhance patient outcomes through better screening and referrals. It is a five-year project that involves collaboration among patients, providers, and experts. The study includes three main phases over five years. In the first two years, a stakeholder committee will adapt the TVIC intervention for Black women and their healthcare providers. In years two to three, the intervention will be implemented and assessed at the healthcare provider level to measure changes in providers' confidence and alignment with trauma-informed care practices. In years four to five, the intervention will be applied at the patient level to provide trauma-informed intimate partner violence screening, brief interventions, and referrals to treatment, evaluating its impact on patient perceptions and clinic climate. Participants will be involved in trauma-informed screening and referral processes, with researchers measuring the number of patients who receive appropriate intimate partner violence screening and trauma or mental health services referrals over 12 months. The study will evaluate both patient and clinic-level outcomes, including the usefulness of the intervention as perceived by patients and changes in clinic climate and culture. The study includes women aged 18 to 79 who self-identify as Black and as survivors of intimate partner violence, with language fluency in English or Spanish required.
