What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the virtual delivery of Safe Dates for Young Parents (SDYP), a 10-session group program aimed at preventing intimate partner violence (IPV) among adolescents and young adults who are pregnant or parenting. This program is tailored to improve the health and well-being of young parents and their children. The study aims to determine if virtual delivery is feasible and acceptable, and whether SDYP participants experience less IPV compared to those in an alternate health education program. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the SDYP intervention or a control group receiving a health education program focused on physical activity and nutrition. Both programs are delivered virtually in groups via Zoom and led by trained facilitators. SDYP consists of interactive sessions lasting 60 to 90 minutes each, while the control group attends ten lessons selected from the HealthSmart digital curriculum without IPV content. Participants will complete surveys before starting the programs and again up to six months later to assess experiences of IPV and related behaviors. Researchers will also evaluate session attendance, engagement, and program adherence throughout the approximately 10-week program. The study is conducted entirely online with participants recruited from various locations across the United States, and it includes follow-up assessments to monitor outcomes over time.
