Evaluation of Primary Tumor Removal in M1a Stage Lung Cancer with Hidden Pleural Metastasis Discovered During Surgery A Prospective Multi-Center Observational Study

Researchers are evaluating the safety and potential benefits of surgically removing the primary tumor in patients with M1a stage lung cancer who have hidden pleural metastasis discovered during surgery. This study aims to determine if removing the primary lesion can improve overall survival and quality of life for these patients. It is a prospective, single-group, multi-center observational trial coordinated by Fudan University. Participants in this study are those with confirmed M1a stage lung cancer with occult pleural spread found during surgery, who have not undergone previous lung cancer surgery or received radiotherapy or chemotherapy. The study follows these patients to observe outcomes such as median overall survival, measured at about 10 months, as well as 2-year and 5-year survival rates and lung function FEV1 and FVC at 6 months. Throughout the trial, participants will be monitored regularly to assess survival and lung function after surgery. Researchers will collect clinical data and follow patients over time to evaluate the impact of primary tumor resection on survival and quality of life. The study is expected to complete by December 2027, with primary results available around December 2026.
