What this Trial Is About

This research aims to study the levels of certain immune system proteins called cytokines in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), focusing on those with and without insulin resistance, as well as women without PCOS. PCOS is a common hormone disorder among women of reproductive age that can cause menstrual problems and infertility, and is linked to insulin resistance and metabolic issues that increase risks for heart disease and cancer. The study seeks to find better markers for insulin resistance and understand the balance of inflammatory and anti-inflammatory factors in PCOS. Participants will be divided into three groups: women with PCOS and insulin resistance, women with PCOS without carbohydrate metabolism disorders, and women without PCOS as a control group. Blood samples will be taken to measure concentrations of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-alpha, IL-18) and the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-4 using immunoenzymatic tests and biochemical analysis. These measurements will be compared across the groups to explore their relationship with metabolic profiles. Women aged 18 to 45 will provide fasting blood samples for testing these cytokine levels. The study will monitor these concentrations up to six months and analyze the results using statistical software. This observational study does not involve treatments but focuses on diagnostic testing to understand the immune and metabolic status related to PCOS and insulin resistance. Participants' involvement includes providing samples and possibly attending follow-up assessments during the study period.
