Who Can Participate
Eligibility Criteria
You may qualify if you...
- Age 6 to 18 years at inclusion
- Asthma diagnosis confirmed by a medical doctor
- Poor symptom control in the last year despite medium to high doses of anti-inflammatory maintenance treatment
- Good compliance and trained inhalation technique
- Evidence of positive bronchodilator reversibility (≥12% increase in FEV1 after short-acting bronchodilator) or significant bronchial hyperreactivity according to ATS criteria
- High level of treatment with inhaled corticosteroids and/or oral steroids as specified
- Poor asthma control defined by frequent symptoms, activity limitations, nighttime symptoms, exacerbations requiring oral corticosteroids or hospitalization, or reduced lung function
- Written informed consent from parent or legal guardian
You will not qualify if you...
- Diagnosis of other obstructive or systemic lung diseases such as cystic fibrosis or COPD
- Other congenital lung diseases or pulmonary malformations
- Significant chronic diseases
- Congenital or acquired heart defects with significant functional limitations
