Researchers are evaluating two different methods for closing the appendicular stump during laparoscopic appendectomies in patients diagnosed with acute appendicitis. The study aims to compare the technical ease, postoperative complications such as fecal fistula, and economic aspects of using clips versus ligature for stump closure. This prospective trial is randomized and does not involve any masking or blinding of participants or investigators. The study involves two groups: one group will have their appendicular stump closed using clips, while the other will have it closed by ligation during laparoscopic appendectomy. Both procedures are performed in patients undergoing surgery for acute appendicitis. The trial will assess outcomes within 24 hours postoperatively to evaluate results related to each closure method. Participants will be monitored closely after surgery, with researchers focusing on postoperative complications and technical details of the procedure. Outcome measures include the immediate results of the appendectomy with either clips or ligature for stump closure, assessed 24 hours after the operation. The study is sponsored by Sohag University and is expected to complete by February 2026, with the participation duration varying depending on individual treatment timelines.
