What this Trial Is About
Sleep disordered breathing (SDB) includes common conditions like obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, and sleep-related breathing problems, often linked with other health issues like cardiometabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. This research aims to create a detailed clinical cohort from central-south China, gathering data retrospectively and prospectively to understand the progression and impact of SDB and its associated conditions. The study focuses on identifying high-risk individuals and improving management to enhance overall health and quality of life. The study consists of two parts: a retrospective cohort including patients who completed sleep monitoring from 2016 to early 2025, and a prospective cohort starting in January 2025 with ongoing enrollment. Data collected includes sleep monitoring results, clinical evaluations, questionnaires, laboratory tests, imaging, physical exams, and pulmonary function tests. Peripheral blood samples will be taken for biomarker and omics research. Follow-up visits occur annually or every two years to monitor disease progression and mortality. Participants undergo comprehensive assessments at baseline and during follow-ups, including sleep studies, physical exams, questionnaires about sleep quality and comorbidities, laboratory and imaging tests. Researchers will track mortality and disease status across multiple systems over up to 10 years. The main outcome is death from any cause, while secondary outcomes include measures of quality of life, sleepiness, cognitive function, and the presence or progression of various organ system diseases. This ongoing monitoring aims to better understand SDB-related multisystem impairments.
