Study of Brain Changes and Memory in Lewy Body Disease, Alzheimers Disease, and Healthy Adults Aged 50 to 95

What this Trial Is About

Researchers are investigating how the brain, memory, thinking, and movement change in people with movement or cognitive disorders such as Lewy body disease and Alzheimer disease, as well as in healthy individuals. The study aims to better understand these brain disorders by examining memory, thinking, brain wave activity, muscle activity, daily functioning, and brain scans. This observational research is conducted by Mayo Clinic and includes adults aged 50 to 95 years. Participants diagnosed by their physician with Lewy body disease or Alzheimer disease, as well as healthy individuals, will undergo a physical and neurological exam. They will also have brain imaging using Magnetic Resonance Imaging MRI, brain wave measurements with electroencephalography EEG, and muscle activity testing through electromyography EMG. These diagnostic tests are used to collect detailed information about brain structure and function. During the study, participants will complete health and cognitive assessments and receive brain scans and electrical measurements of brain and muscle activity. Study partners familiar with participants daily functioning are encouraged to support the assessments. The primary measurements include diffusion-weighted MRI and EEG at baseline. Participants can withdraw at any time, and safety is monitored throughout the study, which continues until June 2027.
