Enhanced Surgical Operating Room Training for Medical Students During Gynecology Rotation A Study to Improve Knowledge and Skills in Gynecologic Surgery

What this Trial Is About

This research aims to evaluate whether adding an enhanced Surgical Operating Room OR curriculum to the medical student program improves knowledge and skills in gynecologic surgical techniques and procedures. It focuses on medical students at Wayne State University during their OBGYN rotation. The study compares students taking the enriched course to those following the standard rotation to see if the enhanced curriculum leads to better understanding and confidence in managing gynecologic surgeries and emergencies. Participants in the intervention group will attend virtual didactic lectures led by gynecology-trained physicians covering topics such as gynecologic anatomy, perioperative care, surgical techniques, operative decision-making, and management of gynecologic emergencies. The control group will complete the standard rotation without extra enrichment. Both groups will complete pre- and post-training surveys to measure changes in knowledge, skills, and clinical perceptions. During the 5-week rotation, participants will complete questionnaires assessing their knowledge and comfort with gynecologic surgical procedures and emergencies. Researchers will track changes from baseline to the end of the rotation. The study also measures participant satisfaction with the curriculum. All data collected are voluntary and de-identified, aiming to improve medical education methods in gynecologic surgery.
