Researchers are establishing the Virtual Peri-Menopause Registry of Australia VITAL, a pioneering digital platform studying the experiences and health impacts related to peri-menopause and menopause among Australians born with ovaries. This registry aims to collect data on symptoms, disease risks, and healthcare experiences, reflecting the communitys priorities to improve research, education, and health services. It addresses the broad effects of peri-menopause and menopause, including mental health, quality of life, and risks of chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular conditions. Participants join an observational registry where they provide personal health information related to their menopausal status, symptoms, and healthcare experiences. The registry is consumer-driven, encouraging secure sharing of sensitive data to better understand and address peri-menopausal and menopausal health. Participants may also opt in to be contacted for future research or clinical trials, although these require separate ethical approval. Throughout the study, participants contribute data over an average of four years, enabling researchers to assess the prevalence and impact of peri-menopausal symptoms and related conditions. The registry aims for at least 10,000 participants broadly representative of Australia. Data collection and updates occur quarterly for at least ten years, with outcomes focused on participant-reported experiences and registry feasibility. The platform supports ongoing community engagement and aims to inform healthcare improvements and policy development.
