What this Trial Is About

Researchers are studying how adolescents and young adults (ages 15 to 29) with cancer prefer to be involved in decisions about their treatment. This study uses hypothetical scenarios to explore their desired roles in decision-making and factors that influence these preferences. The goal is to understand what helps or hinders shared decision-making between patients, healthcare providers, and family or friends. Participants will complete an electronic socio-demographic questionnaire and then respond to hypothetical clinical decision-making scenarios. These scenarios assess whether they prefer an active, collaborative, or passive role in decisions about their cancer care and how much influence they want from providers and family. The survey is delivered online with reminders as needed. During the study, researchers will analyze participants' responses to understand the distribution of decision-making roles within two weeks of survey completion. Additional evaluations will look at links between demographic factors and decision preferences, agreement between interview answers and scenario responses, and how healthcare visits relate to decision roles. Participants complete the survey and may be interviewed within four weeks to provide further insights. Total study participation time varies.
