What this Trial Is About
This research aims to analyze inflammatory markers and the function of islet grafts through blood samples collected from people with chronic pancreatitis who undergo total pancreatectomy with autologous islet transplantation (TP-AIT). The study will enroll 100 participants, including those scheduled for total pancreatectomy (TP) alone or TP-AIT at Baylor University Medical Center or Baylor All Saints Medical Center. Some participants may also be involved in a related clinical study evaluating reparixin in pancreatic islet auto-transplantation. Participants include 85 patients undergoing TP-AIT and 15 patients undergoing TP alone. The study observes these patients without assigning treatments, focusing on collecting data and blood samples to assess graft function after transplantation. The main outcome is the analysis of graft function one year after islet cell transplant. During the study, participants will attend follow-up visits at Baylor where blood samples will be collected and analyzed for inflammatory markers and graft function. Researchers will review medical charts, laboratory results, and imaging reports to assess suitability and monitor progress. The total duration includes at least one year of follow-up after transplantation to evaluate the primary outcome.
