What this Trial Is About
Thyroid dysfunction is a common endocrine problem that greatly affects people with chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially those on dialysis. The rates of thyroid issues among dialysis patients range widely from 20% to 60%, making routine screening and management important for this group. Thyroid hormones regulate many body functions, and imbalances can cause serious complications such as heart disease, anemia, and reduced quality of life in dialysis patients. The connection between CKD and thyroid problems is complex, involving toxins and inflammation that disrupt normal hormone production and metabolism. This observational study at Sohag University Hospital involves patients undergoing regular hemodialysis who will be assessed for thyroid dysfunction through blood tests measuring serum TSH, Free T3, and Free T4 levels. The study aims to identify how common thyroid dysfunction is in these patients and how it relates to dialysis duration and ultrafiltration rate. Participants will be monitored for up to 6 months, with no experimental treatments involved, focusing on diagnostic evaluation. Participants will provide blood samples for thyroid hormone testing during the 6-month follow-up period. Researchers will count how many patients show thyroid dysfunction and analyze these results in relation to their dialysis treatment details. This study helps understand thyroid health in dialysis patients by careful observation and laboratory testing, with no intervention beyond routine care. The total time commitment for participants is up to 6 months from enrollment.
