Throughout the study, participants will be assessed using various questionnaires and scales at baseline, one month after starting treatment, immediately after treatment, and three months later. These include measures of pain intensity, disability, psychological well-being, fear of movement, pain knowledge, and exercise adherence. The main outcome is the Craniofacial Pain and Disability Inventory, which helps evaluate changes in pain and function over time.

Eligible

You may qualify if you...

  • Diagnosed with pain-related temporomandibular disorders (TMD) according to DC/TMD guidelines
  • Experiencing chronic TMD pain for at least six months and having felt pain in the last 30 days
  • Aged between 18 and 65 years
Not Eligible

You will not qualify if you...

  • Illiterate patients
  • Severe depression diagnosed medically
  • Previous diagnosis of uncontrolled psychiatric disorders or neurodegenerative diseases
  • History of tumors in the craniofacial region
  • Patients in the post dental surgery period
  • Patients who received physical therapy or any health/pain education strategy in the past year
  • Pregnant women
  • Infections, whiplash-associated disorders, and chronic degenerative inflammatory or neurologic disorders

Treatment

Duration - 1 month

Participants receive physiotherapy treatment programs which may include therapeutic ultrasound, muscle relaxation techniques, range of motion exercises, and joint and soft tissue mobilization. Some participants also receive Pain Neuroscience Education sessions combined with physiotherapy during the first two weeks.

Weekly visits for up to 4 weeks

Follow-up

Duration - 3 months after treatment ends

Participants are assessed for pain and disability outcomes to evaluate the effects of the treatments received.
