What this Trial Is About
Gastroesophageal reflux disease GERD is a common condition with many patients experiencing nighttime symptoms that can lead to complications such as erosive esophagitis and respiratory issues like asthma and chronic cough. These symptoms disrupt sleep and daily functioning, affecting quality of life. Diet plays a significant role in GERD symptoms, with certain foods and eating habits worsening reflux. Standard treatments include lifestyle changes and proton pump inhibitors, but many patients do not achieve full symptom relief, especially those with disorders of gut-brain interaction DGBI and functional gastrointestinal disorders. This research aims to explore GERD symptoms from multiple angles and develop non-drug treatment strategies focusing on nighttime symptoms, diet, and related digestive disorders. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups one receiving dietary guidance from a nutritionist who will assess eating habits and provide personalized advice in two 20-minute sessions at the start and after 4 weeks, and the other receiving written educational materials based on national healthy eating guidelines to adjust their diet independently. The study is designed to evaluate these behavioral interventions over a 12-week period. During the study, participants will complete several questionnaires at the beginning, at Week 4, and at the end of 12 weeks to assess GERD symptoms, reflux severity, anxiety, depression, sleep quality, visceral sensitivity, and overall quality of life. These assessments will help researchers understand the impact of dietary and lifestyle changes on GERD and related disorders. The study lasts approximately 12 weeks, with monitoring of symptom changes and well-being throughout this time.
