What this Trial Is About
Researchers are studying how different factors affect thinking and memory abilities in patients who have had a stroke. The study aims to identify those at risk for dementia after stroke, which includes acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, or aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Understanding these factors may help develop future treatments to improve outcomes for stroke patients. This is a large, prospective observational study enrolling 8,000 patients with recent stroke and no history of dementia. Participants will have baseline assessments including blood draws and cognitive tests. Follow-up will include in-person visits at 3-6 months and 18 months, and annual phone visits. Some participants will receive advanced brain imaging like MRI and PET scans to detect dementia-related markers. Participants will be monitored over time with repeated cognitive and functional tests, brain scans, and blood sample collections. The study will measure changes in cognitive impairment and dementia diagnosis up to 48 months after stroke. This long-term follow-up helps researchers understand recovery and decline patterns, supporting earlier detection and tailored care plans for stroke survivors.
