What this Trial Is About

This research aims to understand and address inequalities in liver transplant listing and transplantation among patients with end-stage liver dysfunction. The study focuses on how personal and system-level factors related to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and gender affect liver transplant evaluation and listing. It also explores the use of stigmatizing language experienced by patients during this process. Participants with end-stage liver disease referred for transplant evaluation will complete questionnaires about their background, feelings, and behaviors. This observational study will establish a long-term group of these patients to examine disparities in transplant access and outcomes. Throughout the study, researchers will monitor participants for about one year to see who gets listed for a liver transplant and who actually receives one. They will also track survival rates and graft function up to one year after transplantation. Participants will be asked to fill out repeated questionnaires and provide information to help understand these disparities.
