What this Trial Is About
This research aims to evaluate the effects of combining resistance exercise training and a high-protein diet on frailty in elderly obese women diagnosed with sarcopenia. The study will recruit sixty women aged 60 to 70 years who meet specific sarcopenia criteria, focusing on improving muscle strength and overall health. Participants will be randomly assigned to different groups to assess the combined impact of exercise and nutrition on their condition. Participants in Group A will engage in supervised resistance exercise sessions three times weekly for 12 weeks, starting with warming up, followed by various strength exercises like leg press and chest press with gradual increases in intensity and duration. They will also follow a high-protein diet providing 1.3 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily, spread evenly across meals, with dietary intake monitored biweekly. Group B will receive the same high-protein diet and general health advice but will maintain their usual lifestyle without structured exercise during the study period; they will be offered the exercise program after the trial. Throughout the 12 weeks, participants will be monitored through assessments including balance testing, handgrip strength, muscle quality, body measurements like waist-to-hip ratio and body mass index, and quality of life evaluations. Exercise attendance and dietary adherence will be tracked through training logs and dietary records. The study's primary goal is to observe balance improvements, with other health and muscle-related measures as secondary outcomes, to understand how combined exercise and diet interventions affect frailty in this population.
