What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the effects of two physical therapy approaches, the Motor Relearning Program and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF), on balance and walking ability in patients with chronic stroke. This experimental randomized control trial is conducted at DHQ Hospital Mirpur and Fauji Foundation Hospital Rawalpindi, focusing on patients more than six months post-stroke who can walk at least 10 meters. The study aims to determine which therapy better improves balance and gait parameters over six weeks. Participants are randomly assigned to one of two groups. The control group receives a Motor Relearning Program involving task-oriented training such as sitting to standing, walking practice, and hip and knee control exercises for 30 minutes per session. The experimental group receives PNF therapy, including pelvic movements and diagonal limb patterns, also for 30 minutes per session. Both groups attend therapy four times a week for six weeks. During the study, researchers assess balance using the Berg Balance Scale, walking speed with the 10-meter walk test, and functional mobility through the Timed-Up-And-Go test. These evaluations occur at the start and after six weeks of intervention. Data collected will help identify therapy effects on balance and gait in chronic stroke patients. Participation involves regular therapy sessions and assessments over the study period.
