What this Trial Is About
Researchers are evaluating the effects of pulmonary and cardiovascular rehabilitation programs on adults with chronic respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. This study focuses on individuals diagnosed with conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, asthma, acute myocardial infarction, coronary angioplasty, stable angina, valve replacement, and chronic heart failure. The purpose is to assess improvements in functional capacity, quality of life, and respiratory muscle strength after participating in the rehabilitation programs for three months. Participants will undergo a rehabilitation program that includes aerobic exercises using a treadmill or stationary bike, performed at an intensity between 50-70% of the heart rate reserve and kept below ischemic thresholds. The program also includes peripheral muscle strength exercises for the upper and lower limbs and respiratory muscle training for lung disease patients. The rehabilitation lasts for three months, with progress compared by evaluating each participant's condition before and after the program. During the study, participants will be assessed through medical history, physical exams (including weight, height, BMI, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, respiratory muscle strength), and complementary tests. Functional capacity will be measured using the six-minute walk test, and quality of life will be evaluated via questionnaires. Researchers will monitor inspiratory and expiratory muscle strength and functional capacity at three months to understand the program's effects. The study is led by the University of Campinas, Brazil, and participation involves regular physical therapy sessions and assessments over three months.
